Tessuti e colori come forma d'arte non estranea alla moda, sono all'origine di Whispering Africa, società che coniuga stile italiano e stoffe originali africane, puntando a una produzione che, privilegiando
materiale e forma, si colloca fuori da quella serialità oggi spesso coperta dall'inflazionato termine "etnico".
Continente emergente anche nel campo della moda, con stilisti ormai famosi in tutto il mondo, l'Africa produce tessuti, diversi per
consistenza e tecniche di stampa, di antiche tradizioni e non, con disegni di una modernità e raffinatezza sorprendenti. Tra questi abbiamo scelto per la nostra collezione capi non comuni, mettendo in un insieme armonico tutti questi fattori.
I
tessuti utilizzati provengono dall'Africa Orientale, si differenziano per consistenza, tipologia di disegno e utilizzo e sono quasi tutti di puro cotone di produzione locale. In lingua kiswahili sono classsificati come Kanga, Kitenge, Kikoy. I Kanga si distinguono
perchè recano impresse frasi che richiamano messaggi di amore, di pace e di monito. In qualche caso anche proverbi e motti che li trasformano in strumenti estemporanei e originali di comunicazione.
Uno degli obiettivi che Whispering
Africa si pone è quello di entrare a far parte, col tempo dell'organizzazione di Evie Evangelou "Fashion 4 Development". Whispering come sussurro dell'Africa portato da questi tessuti che ondeggiano nel vento e si propaga oltre i confini del Continente
nero. La speranza è di contribuire, se pur in minima parte, a far sì che questo sussurro si trasformi in una forte, autorevole voce.

in Whispering Africa
Originating from the highly sophisticated artistic potential of African fabrics and colours, ideally lending themselves to being used in fashion, Whispering Africa, a company that wants to combine Italian stylistic features with
original African fabrics, aims at a production that, privileging craftsmanship with its careful selection of materials as well as of patterns and styles, intends to avoid the effect of mass-produced articles of clothing, most commonly referred to as “ethnic”.
As a continent that is nowadays emerging also in the domain of fashion through designers who have acquired great renown all over the world, Africa produces fabrics, different in texture and printing techniques, both of ancient tradition and totally new
and original, showing patterns and graphisms of a surprising modernity and refinement. Deriving inspiration from these outstanding materials and making a careful search and selection of fabrics, Whispering Africa, with the aim of producing uncommon and unique
clothing, tries to harmonize all these features in a unique, distinctive and original blend.
The fabrics that Whispering Africa selects come from East Africa, almost all in pure cotton, locally produced, widely differing in texture, type of design and
use. Their names and types are, in Kiswahili: Kanga, Kitenge, Kikoy. Kangas distinguish themselves in that they bear printed phrases carrying political messages of peace and love, occasionally also of warning. In that way printed proverbs and slogans act as
extemporaneous and original instruments of communication.
One of the goals that Whispering Africa aims at achieving is that of eventually joining the organization of Evie Evangelou “Fashion 4 Development”. In that light “whispering”
could be meant to be the sound of fabrics swaying in the wind, expanding and reaching out beyond the boundaries of the Black Continent. Whispering Africa hopes to contribute and help, albeit minimally, in the transformation of an original whisper into a loud,
strong and authoritative voice.
